*** HONESTY *** EXCELLENCE *** A SPIRIT OF INNOVATION *** TEAM ***

Tatura Milk Industries Ltd (TMI) is aware that the way the recruitment and selection process is handled affects the organisation’s image as an employer and, in turn, its ability to attract qualified staff. Accordingly our Human Resources Policies and Procedures reflect good Human Resources Practice with the objectives:

  • To be respectful of the applicant and to treat with confidentiality all applications for employment.
  • To provide evidence of the required capabilities; to be transparent, equitable, timely and effective in meeting the business needs of the company.

The Recruitment process comprises the steps below with information on each step as detailed.

1. Application

In making an application to an advertised position with TMI it is vital that applicants read the position description carefully and gain an understanding of the responsibilities and tasks of the position, the mandatory or preferred qualifications and the key selection criteria of the position. For assistance in addressing key selection criteria see “Frequently Asked Questions”.

In applying for an advertised position at TMI, applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  1. A cover letter stating the position you are applying for.

  2. A current resume (which should include a statement of any formal qualifications obtained).
    Note
    :
copies of mandatory qualifications and or/copies of licences and professional registrations (where applicable) may need to be presented at interview.

  3. A statement of experience, knowledge and skills and personal qualities against each of the key selection criteria

  4. The completed and signed health declaration form found on the position description

2. Shortlisting

Using the key selection criteria, the selection panel will assess all the information you provided to determine whether you will be short-listed for an interview. The selection panel will focus on the key selection criteria as these specify the requirements of the position, mandatory qualifications, personal qualities and knowledge and skills.

It is important that you specifically address the key selection criteria by explaining how your experience, knowledge, skills and personal qualities meet each criterion.

3. Assessment

Interviews

If you are short-listed, you will be invited to attend a panel interview. A panel will comprise a minimum of two people. In conducting Interviews TMI utilises a mixture of questions made up of:

  1. Information seeking questions, where you may be asked to expand or clarify information contained in your application, your career goals, and to explain your specialist skills and knowledge.

  2. Behavioural style questions regarding your demonstrated competence in areas of decision making, technical or specialist skill, interpersonal skills and time management as they apply to the position.  Behavioural style questions can also include “situational testing” where you are given a scenario, In-tray exercise or a case study and you are required to brief the panel on how you would handle this situation or to identify the key issues.

  3. Applicant questions; TMI recognises that as we are assessing the applicant’s suitability for the stated position, the applicant will need to be provided with sufficient information and encouraged to ask questions so they can make an informed decision about their suitability for the role.

Where further assessment is required, a second interview may be undertaken.

As an applicant you can prepare for the assessment by reviewing your skills and experience against the key selection criteria of the position description, anticipate questions and research the job environment and context.

4. Pre-employment Checks

Referee Checks

With the names and contact details that you give us, we will undertake reference checks of two or more current referees, preferably a current and/or previous supervisor.

Health Screen and Medical Checks

Applicants for all positions at TMI are required to complete a health screen and physical assessment prior to appointment. Health screening is specific to the relevant position description and is conducted by qualified health professionals at the Tatura Site.

For positions with high physical demands or potential health risks, a pre-employment screen and physical assessment will be undertaken by a TMI nominated Health care professional. The Health Care Professional will assess your capacity to safely, independently and productively perform the genuine and reasonable requirements of the position in question.
